Keeping Track of Sober Time with Sober Living
One of the main traditions in AA--and in recovery in general--is keeping track of sober time and celebrating various milestones of continuous sobriety. In AA especially, members enjoy getting “chips” that mark one month, two months, three months, six months, nine months, one year, and eighteen months. After that, chips are given every year. The idea behind this progression is that, as our sobriety grows stronger, we can focus less on the accomplishment of a chip and instead focus on the joys of day-to-day sober living. In early recovery, however, it seems important to celebrate and be proud of every smaller milestone, whether that is a day, a week, or a month.
At Harmony Haus, a transitional housing (sober house) in Texas, we feel the same way about celebrating your accomplishments in sobriety. With a group of peers and friends who are on the same journey as you, you will enjoy receiving chips and being congratulated with every step you take in sobriety. And you’ll see others collecting chips too--a reminder of how it is very possible to recover from addiction and string together very long periods of solid sobriety.
At Harmony Haus, transitional housing in Austin TX, we are as excited about your recovery as you are. Community and connection are so important to recovery, and supporting each other is key. You’ll get recovery advice from peers with more sober time than you, support and love from those on similar stages of their journey as you, and you’ll be able to mentor people and housemates who are newer to sobriety than you.
